Heart Shaped Valentine Cookies

These Cookies are extremely easy to make, need only 4 ingredients and taste delicious - kids love them!

They make a great gift too. You can simply decorate a little craft box or tie a ribbon around a glass jar and give to someone special.

Note: This recipe makes about 24 cookies but will vary depending on the size of your heart cookie cutter.

What You Need:

  • 125g butter
  • 100g super fine sugar/caster sugar
  • 250g self-raising flour - plus a little extra for rolling
  • 1 egg

  • baking paper lined/greased oven trays and wire rack for cooling cookies on
  • heart shaped cookie cutter - any size you like - or make cookies a variety of sizes
  • bowl, wooden spoon and roller
  • electric beater - cookies do turn out fine if you mix by hand

What To Do:

  1. Get everything ready and preheat oven to 180 degrees/350 fahrenheit/gas mark 4.
  2. Mix the butter and sugar together with an electric beater until well combined.
  3. Add egg and flour and mix together until combined.
  4. Lightly knead the mixture until it forms a dough.
  5. Put onto a floured surface, sprinkle a little flour over dough and roll out - to about 2 - 3mm thick.
  6. Put onto a baking paper lined tray and bake for 12 - 15 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly, then put cookies onto wire rack to cool completely - if they last that long!

Variations to Plain Heart Shaped Valentine Cookies

Try any of these variations to the above recipe:

  • Replace 2 tablespoons of flour with 2 tablespoons of cocoa for chocolate cookies
  • Add 2 tablespoons of desiccated coconut to the mixture
  • "Strawberry Jam Hearts" Before baking - make slight indents in cookies (either in the center or us a smaller heart shaped cookie cutter) and add strawberry jam for delicious strawberry hearts

Valentine Jellies

These jellies are so much fun and easy to make for toddlers and preschoolers. It makes a yummy Valentine treat!

What You Need:

  • 1 packet of jelly crystals
  • heart shaped muffin tray - or any mold
  • bowl, whisk and small jug

What To Do:

  1. Boil the kettle and get everything ready for your child to start "cooking"
  2. Allow the boiled water to cool slightly.
  3. Pour the jelly crystals into a bowl and then make the jelly as per the packet instructions.
    Caution: An adult must add the hot water and child must be closely supervised while mixing the hot water into the jelly crystals. As an extra precaution use only enough hot water to dissolve the crystals and make up the rest with cold water.
  4. Adult - jelly into small jug and let your child fill the molds.
  5. Place in fridge until set. Eat.
