This Paint Supplies list is a suggestion as to what you will need for most crafts.

Please Note: This supplies list is only a guide.

Depending on the age of your child, your child's interests and abilities, your available time for painting and your budget, you can choose which of the below your kid will need.

Paint Supply List

For Acrylic, Tempera and Poster Painting:

  • chosen types of non-toxic paint - acrylic, tempera, &/or poster
  • various colors - at least red, yellow and blue
  • brushes - different types of thickness, shapes and styles
  • other applicators - such as sponges, rollers, matchbox cars
  • palette - or a disposable plastic plate
  • paper - A3 size is best
  • pre-made canvas board - or make your own


For Finger Painting:

  • various colors of non-toxic finger paint - at least red, yellow and blue
  • disposable plastic plates or bowls to put each color in - large enough for your child's hand
  • paper - A3 size is best
  • corflute or fluteboard
  • plastic sheeting
  • pre-made canvas board - or make your own


For Watercolor Painting:

  • various colors of non-toxic paint - usually comes in a tray
  • brushes - different types of thickness, shapes and styles
  • other applicators such as cotton tips, toothbrushes etc
  • paper - A3 size is best - try to get heavier paper suitable for watercolor paint


For Fabric Painting:

  • non-toxic fabric paint in various colors
  • cheap (or old) plain colored t-shirts - preferably white, or any other piece of fabric (cotton or similar) or clothing item that can be painted
  • any type of fabric (cotton etc) covered item such as cushions, calico teddy, curtains, place mats etc
  • paint applicators such as brushes, sponges, rollers, toothbrushes, combs etc


For Face Painting:

  • FDA or similar approved skin safe face and/or body paint in various colors
  • soft bristled (or specific face painting) brushes - different types of thickness, shapes and styles
  • other soft applicators - such as sponges, cotton tips, cotton balls, make up removing pads
  • palette - or a disposable plastic plate if required
  • kid safe or baby cream - optional
  • baby wipes
  • mirror
